Shadyside is exploring state and federal fonding options to prepare a Sanitary Sewer Study to address the sanitmy sewer backups. Each state funding agency indicated it is important to document any sewage backups experienced by residents within the Village. Apparently, the Ohio EPA views sewage backups as a health and safety issue which could lead to grant/loan opportunities from the Ohio EPA.
Rich Lucas, Belmont County Health District’s Environmental Director, indicated to email his office whenever there is a sewer backup to create an inventory of such complaints. Rich Lucas’s email is rlucas@belmontcountyhealth.com. and the email should include the following information if possible:
• The date of the backup
• A description of the backup (the extent and location of the backup, how high the water was, how much damage it caused in dollars, if possible, etc.)
• Any pictures of the backup
Ultimately the complaints will be forwarded to the Ohio EPA to document and identify the sanitary sewer problems of the Village. Hopefully the complaints will give Shadyside leverage in acquiring state and federal funding to prepare a Sanitary Sewer Study to address the problem.
